About Dan
Dan Birmingham is a tax fighter who has found solutions to create jobs, cut taxes and trim wasteful spending. Birmingham understands that higher taxes kill jobs and force families from their homes and he is fighting to prevent that from happening.
Dan was first elected to the Putnam County Legislature in 2003 and served as Chairman of the legislative body for 2 years.
As a Putnam County Legislator, Dan fought against MTA taxes and fare hikes. He cut business taxes to create jobs and attract new employers and prevented large property tax hikes by attracting new businesses as founding Chairman of the County’s Industrial Development Agency. Dan created senior housing communities as President of the not-for-profit senior housing corporation and he overhauled county ethics laws to prevent government corruption.
Dan started in public service as a lifeguard in high school and college. Later, he became a college intern in the County Executive’s Office. Thereafter he rose through the ranks and in 1995 was named Deputy County Executive — at the time the youngest person to hold that position in New York.
Since 1998, Dan has worked as a public finance attorney where he has helped communities by assisting with the construction of senior and community centers and youth activity centers and other public buildings that serve families.
Dan earned his law and bachelor’s degrees from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. Dan is a graduate of John F. Kennedy Catholic High School in Somers, New York.
Dan Birmingham was born in Brooklyn, New York and moved with his family to Mahopac when he was four years old. Dan lives in Brewster, New York.
